Asclepius Statue Discovered in Antalya

A rare marble statue group depicting Asclepius and his son Telesphorus was discovered in the ancient city of Aspendos in the Pamfilya region of Antalya. This discovery provides new evidence of the importance of the health and healing cult in the ancient city. The statue is approximately 2.20 meters high and dates back to the late 2nd century. It was found near the monumental gate of Aspendos, along a road that was intensively used during the Roman period. Aspendos is known as one of the most important ancient Greek cities in Pamfilya and is home to a famous ancient theater.
