First hearing in the death of Helin Nama in Antalya: Defendant maintains suicide claim

The first hearing was held in the case regarding the death of 24-year-old Helin Nama, who was shot dead with a firearm on January 18 in the Kepez district of Antalya. İsmail K., who was arrested on the charge of 'intentional murder' in the death of Nama, whom he reportedly lived with under a religious marriage, denied the charges. The defendant claimed that during an argument, the young woman locked the door, pressed the gun to her forehead, and that the gun went off while he was trying to intervene.

At the hearing held at the Antalya 1st High Criminal Court, İsmail K. claimed that an argument broke out between him and his spouse over informing and asking for permission, and that the incident occurred in this manner. He stated that they returned home after visiting his family and that the argument started about 10 minutes later. Following the incident, the wounded woman was carried to the hospital in his arms but could not be saved.

The relatives of the victim did not accept the defendant's suicide defense. The prosecution filed a lawsuit against the defendant on charges of 'intentional murder of a woman' and 'possession of an unlicensed firearm.' While the witnesses' statements were also heard at the hearing, the defendant, who is in prison, continued to make his defense.
