Asvan Governor Launches Emergency Action Plan to Solve the Stray Dog Crisis

A concrete step has been taken against the stray dog crisis, which has become a growing public safety issue in recent times in Asvan, one of the major cities in the south of Egypt. Asvan Governor Amr Lashin ordered the preparation of an emergency action plan to solve the stray dog problem in the region during a meeting held on Wednesday, 24 June. This order given by Governor Lashin was designed to cover all districts and cities with a comprehensive structure. Emphasizing that the crisis is directly related to public health and safety, the Governor stated that fast and effective solutions must be produced. In this context, it was decided to accelerate the processes of collecting, vaccinating, and sterilizing stray dogs.

The new approach adopted by the governorate offers a balanced model that protects animal rights while also considering the physical safety of citizens. Lashin announced that an integrated system will be implemented by working in close coordination with the ministry of local development. This system is built on three main pillars: comprehensive vaccination, systematic sterilization, and care in safe shelters. Authorities expect these steps to contribute to creating a much safer and more stable environment for the residents of the region. In addition, with the control of the existing stray dog population, it is aimed to prevent potential attacks and accidents that may occur in the future.

The decisions in question were discussed at the routine monthly meeting of the governorate executive council chaired by Governor Lashin. A large number of parliament members and representatives from Asvan University also attended this important meeting with high participation. During the meeting, the dimensions of the stray dog problem and the efforts made so far were reviewed in detail. The participants discussed the shortcomings of the current methods and made a comprehensive assessment of how this problem could be improved in accordance with scientific and humanitarian standards. Utilizing the opinions of academics and experts will allow the process to progress in a more planned and rational manner.

Governor Lashin firmly demanded that campaigns for collecting stray dogs from the streets be intensified and that they be impounded in the upcoming period. Instead of being released back into the streets, the collected animals are planned to be placed in new shelters currently under construction. The implementation of these shelters in accordance with modern standards is of great importance in the process of housing and rehabilitating the animals. Authorities are working intensively for the construction processes to be completed as soon as possible and for this supply and care system to become operational. The Governor stated that this arrangement is the best method that will simultaneously ensure the protection of the public and the observance of animal rights.

The importance of inter-institutional cooperation for the success of the new integrated plan was also particularly emphasized at the meeting. Governor Lashin stated that the coordinated work of the Veterinary Services and other relevant institutions is one of the most critical factors in resolving the crisis. The stray dog problem is not just a local issue, but rather a multidimensional structure that directly affects public health and city aesthetics. The creation of a sustainable shelter and population control mechanism will bring an innovative solution to one of Egypt's historical problems in this field. This conscious step by Asvan stands out as a management practice that could set an example for other cities.
