ATSO President Torunoğlu Warns: Construction Will Stop If Payments Are Not Made

Ali Bahar Torunoğlu, President of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO), has drawn attention to the payment problems in urban transformation projects. In his statement, Torunoğlu emphasized that payments to contractors must be made on time and in full for the success of on-site transformation practices. He warned that otherwise, construction could come to a halt.

Torunoğlu noted that especially in the earthquake zone, transformation efforts are intensifying, but contractor firms are facing cash flow issues. Due to delayed payments, many companies cannot fulfill their commitments, which negatively affects both homeowners and the sector. He stated that ATSO has been in talks with relevant ministries and local authorities to resolve the issue.

The President also highlighted the advantages of the on-site transformation model. This model allows citizens to move into safer and more modern buildings without leaving their neighborhoods. However, he stressed that financial continuity is critical for the healthy functioning of this process. "If payments are not made, construction will stop, jeopardizing transformation goals," Torunoğlu said.

Torunoğlu also pointed out bureaucratic obstacles faced by industry representatives. He stated that lengthy permit processes and complex procedures slow down the transformation pace. He called for more flexible and faster regulatory changes to solve these problems. He mentioned that ATSO has submitted a report on this matter to the relevant authorities.

Finally, Torunoğlu called for cooperation among all stakeholders. He emphasized that the state, private sector, and citizens must act together. Stressing that on-site transformation is vital given Turkey's earthquake reality, he added that everyone must fulfill their responsibilities to ensure this process continues without interruption.
