'Hayal Atlası' Exhibition Reflecting the City Through the Eyes of Children Opens in Bornova

The 'Bornova Hayal Atlası Photography and Illustration Exhibition', organized as part of the Hobby and Skill Acquisition Courses of the Bornova Municipality, opened with intense interest from art lovers at the Uğur Mumcu Kültür ve Sanat Merkezi. Consisting of original works by children aged 9-15, the exhibition reveals city life and its nature through the unique perspectives of children. Participating young artists found the opportunity to get to know the city they live in more closely during this process, and also enjoyed expressing their inner world through art. Visitors had the opportunity to closely observe how ordinary streets and daily life are reshaped in children's imaginations. The exhibition stood out as a significant cultural event showcasing the creativity and artistic potential of young individuals.

As part of the photography training and illustration workshops held in the Bornova district of İzmir, children first photographed the city they live in from their own windows. They masterfully framed the crowded streets, historical architecture, natural beauties, and the small but meaningful details of daily life of the city into their shots. Later, they reinterpreted these photographs they took using various illustration techniques and added a completely personal touch to their works. Thanks to the vivid colors, original lines, and creative designs they added on top of the photographs, familiar places turned into spaces hosting completely different stories. This process enabled children not only to gain a technical skill but also to approach their surroundings with artistic curiosity by developing their observation skills.

The exhibition, which mesmerizes its visitors at the Uğur Mumcu Kültür ve Sanat Merkezi, received full marks from audiences of all ages. Each of the exhibited works carries the quality of a work of art reflecting the emotional world, hopeful dreams about the city, and sharp observations of the young participants. In these special works where reality and imagination are blended, the familiar buildings, streets, and natural elements of the city gained brand new and mind-broadening meanings. Thanks to the pure and passionate perspectives of the children, art lovers found the opportunity to look at the city they live in through a completely different lens. The event brought together different disciplines of art, making the talents of young children visible in the social sphere, contributing to their development.

All these successful works in the exhibition emerged as the fruit of a disciplined workshop study conducted under the guidance of expert instructors in the field. Under the leadership of photography instructor Mert Çalır and experienced illustrator Gülsüm Katmer, children learned the basic techniques of photography and also developed their drawing skills. Throughout the training process, participants had the chance to practically explore many technical details, from using light to framing adjustments. Then, combining the photography knowledge they acquired with the limitless possibilities of the art of illustration, they produced completely original and creative works. Thanks to this professional guidance, children also experienced that art is not only a means of expression but also a production process requiring discipline and patience.

The Bornova Hayal Atlası Exhibition offers a striking visual feast proving that a city is not only about its reinforced concrete, streets, and historical structures.
