Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk announces he will continue his hunger strike from the hospital

While protests organized by the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in the Indian capital, New Delhi, continue, renowned environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk released a message from the hospital. Citing the interventions against peacefully protesting youth as a reason, Wangchuk decided to continue his hunger strike. He stated that his action will continue until the protesters are allowed to meet with members of parliament at the Parliament building.

CJP members organized a march to the Parliament on 20 July 2026 but encountered heavy security barricades and police intervention. The police used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters and detained many individuals. Subsequently, Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister JP Nadda held a meeting lasting approximately three hours to listen to the demands of the protesters.

Wangchuk called on the government and the police to allow the youth to express their grievances in front of the Parliament. Furthermore, he emphasized that Central Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be put on trial as the person responsible for the incidents the students were subjected to. Praising the youth for maintaining their composure despite provocations, the activist expressed his confidence that they will continue their patience tomorrow as well.
