Palestine Marks Medical School Graduation in Diyarbakır

Dicle University's Faculty of Medicine held its 54th graduation ceremony with great participation. Founded in 1966, the faculty holds an important place in Turkish medicine. The ceremony saw 304 new physicians graduate. Attendees included Rector Prof. Dr. Kamuran Eronat, Vice Rectors, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the hospital chief physician, academics, students, and their families. The event drew intense interest and was filled with emotional moments.

Student representative Enes Malik Dere's speech left a strong mark on the ceremony. Dere highlighted the genocide in Palestine and sent greetings to the people of Gaza and healthcare workers there. He said, "I consider it a duty to send greetings from Diyarbakır to the brave people of Gaza, who lack even the minimum humanitarian conditions needed for medical services and resist the oppressors, and to the heroic doctors and healthcare workers who have not left their posts despite all the bombings and losing their loved ones." His words were met with thunderous applause and emotional scenes.

Rector Prof. Dr. Kamuran Eronat emphasized that medicine is a sacred profession requiring not only knowledge but also patience, discipline, sacrifice, and respect for human life. He advised graduates never to stray from the light of science, ethical values, and conscience. Dean Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Ertuğrul noted that students had successfully completed a challenging education process.

After the speeches, the graduates recited the Hippocratic Oath. Diplomas were presented and a cap-throwing ceremony took place. At the end, graduates, faculty members, and families danced the halay to music, celebrating the joy of graduation. These images added a special touch to the event.

Dicle University Faculty of Medicine continues to contribute significantly to Turkey's healthcare system. The emphasis on Palestine during the graduation ceremony demonstrated the sensitivity of the young doctors. The event will be remembered as one highlighting both academic achievement and humanitarian values.
