Friends Mistaken for Enemies

The South Korean military's near-miss of a US reconnaissance drone during a routine joint exercise contains more than just an embarrassing mistake. Failures in military discipline, reporting procedures, and alliance coordination can quickly lead to serious operational and diplomatic consequences. According to reports, South Korean forces detected an unidentified aircraft in the northern border region and activated air defense alarms against enemy drones. Intercept preparations began, and emergency evacuation messages were sent to civilians.
