Scattered Cables in Front of Karawang University in Endonezya Cause Public Concern

In the Telukjambe Timur area of Endonezya's Karawang city, scattered and dangling cables in front of Singaperbangsa Karawang University (Unsika) are the subject of serious complaints from local residents. Locals state that the irregularly hanging cables both ruin the aesthetics of the environment and pose a significant danger to passersby. Every day, a large number of students, pedestrians, and drivers pass through this specific point located right in front of the university campus. The uncontrolled presence of infrastructure elements like cables in such densely populated areas increases the risks of unexpected electric shocks or falls. It is emphasized that authorities should not remain indifferent to this situation and must produce urgent solutions to ensure the safety of the area.

24-year-old Ahmad Fauzi, a local shopkeeper in the area, stated that the dangling cables negatively affect daily life and threaten people's safety. Fauzi added that these cables prevent people in the neighborhood from moving freely and create a constant fear of accidents. He pointed out that people are forced to change their normal walking routes to avoid colliding with or tripping over the cables. He added that such seemingly simple but potentially dangerous situations should not be ignored by authorities. Noting that other citizens in the vicinity share similar concerns, he stated that the problem must not be left unresolved.

According to the information provided by Fauzi, local citizens and street vendors previously showed solidarity to solve this problem by trying to gather the cables themselves. However, due to time constraints and a lack of necessary equipment, this initiative was only partially successful, and the clutter could not be completely eliminated. This hasty temporary intervention further increased the complexity in some places rather than making the cables look more orderly. This situation highlights that infrastructure problems need to be solved not by individual efforts but through professional intervention by the relevant authorities. Otherwise, it is stated that inadequate repairs could perpetuate hidden dangers and pave the way for major accidents.

While thousands of students, locals, and street vendors create daily activity in front of Unsika, it is of great importance that this density takes place in a safe environment. While sidewalks and roads around the campus are expected to be safe transit zones, especially for young people, this kind of cable clutter elevates the danger level. Beyond aesthetic concerns, cables hanging towards the ground obstruct pedestrians and can cause traffic disruptions. Local governments and institutions responsible for infrastructure services must not compromise on safety at critical points such as campus surroundings. If necessary care is not taken, it is believed that minor negligences could lead to panic or serious injuries among students and citizens.

Local residents, led by many individuals including Fauzi, are demanding that authorities either fix the cables or completely cut and remove them if they are no longer needed. Citizens believe that evaluating and implementing these demands quickly will enhance both the safety and comfort of the area. Sending teams to the field from the municipality or relevant telecommunications and electricity companies is seen as a major necessity for solving this issue.
