Specialist Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş Martyred in Armed Clash in Eskişehir

In a tragic incident that occurred in Narlı Mahallesi, Mihalıççık district of Eskişehir, Specialist Gendarmerie Eighth Class Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş was martyred. Gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area after an individual, alleged to be mentally unstable, opened random fire with a rifle at the surroundings. Upon the teams' arrival at the scene, an armed clash broke out between the suspect and security forces. Demirbaş, who was severely injured during this clash, could not be saved despite all interventions at Mihalıççık Devlet Hastanesi. In the incident, a gendarmerie personnel and the neighborhood headman were also injured, while İbrahim Günsel, the suspect who allegedly opened fire, died at the scene.

It was learned that martyred Specialist Gendarmerie Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş was married and a father of two daughters. It was reported that Demirbaş had been serving in Eskişehir since 2017 and was a personnel loved by his colleagues. It was announced that the treatment of the other injured gendarmerie personnel and Mutlu Şahin, the headman of Narlı Mahallesi, continues at the hospital. While the seriousness of the health condition of the injured taken to the hospital continues, the local people are still experiencing the shock of the incident. It was stated that the body of the martyred gendarmerie personnel will be laid to rest tomorrow in Terme district, Samsun.

In the statement, condolences were offered to the martyr, wishing mercy from Allah, and condolences to the grieving family, the Heroic Gendarmerie organization, and the nation. Minister Çiftçi also wished that the martyr's rank be elevated. This statement was received with great sorrow by both the security forces and the public.
