Massive narcotics operation at Gürbulak Border Gate: 80 kilos of drugs hidden in vehicle roof seized

A major drug operation was conducted at Gürbulak Customs Area, located in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, as a result of the careful and meticulous work of security forces. A suspicious vehicle attempting to enter Turkey from Iran was stopped and subjected to a detailed inspection following intelligence and risk analysis by customs teams. During these comprehensive searches, hidden compartments that are not present in the vehicle's factory default and were specially designed later were discovered. These hidden compartments were masterfully placed in the roof and side paneling of the vehicle, making them extremely difficult to detect from the outside. Upon this discovery, customs enforcement teams dismantled the relevant parts of the vehicle to access the illegal substance inside.

The physical searches were accompanied by the support of technological devices and specially trained teams. A detailed scan was conducted using high-tech X-ray devices to observe the vehicle's general outlines and detect the hidden compartments. In addition, specially trained narcotics detector dogs, which are highly sensitive to the smell of drugs, played a significant role in the operation. The dogs reacting at different points in the vehicle allowed the teams to concentrate their search in those specific areas. These multi-layered security measures have once again demonstrated how effective they are in preventing smuggling activities at border gates in recent years.

As a result of these intensive and meticulous searches, a total of 79 kilos and 642 grams of opium sap were extracted from the vehicle's hidden compartments. The seized narcotic substance represents a high quantity enough to be part of a textbook-style, large-scale trade and distribution network. Customs teams emphasize how vital it is for public health to prevent such a large amount of drugs from reaching the streets. The packaging and storage method of the materials indicates a smuggling attempt professionally planned by an international criminal organization. The success of the operation proves how decisive border security measures and the determination of the teams are against criminal organizations.

Following the occurrence of the incident and the seizure of the drugs, the judicial process was immediately initiated. The narcotic substance and the vehicle used were immediately confiscated and secured by security forces at border units to be evaluated as evidence. The Doğubayazıt Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced to the public that it has launched a large-scale and comprehensive investigation to uncover the entire network behind the incident. Within the scope of this investigation, it is stated that efforts will be accelerated to identify the owner of the vehicle, the driver, and other potential suspects involved in the incident. Furthermore, issues such as where the drugs were sourced and which provinces within Turkey they were intended to be dispatched to are on the research agenda of the judicial authorities.
