Croatia U-19 loses to Ukraine in first round of European Championship

The Croatia under-19 national football team started the European Championship in Wales with a defeat. In the first match of Group B, they faced Ukraine U-19 and lost 3-1. Croatia took the lead in the 22nd minute through a penalty converted by Ivan Barić, making it 1-0.

Ukraine quickly equalized in the 26th minute with a goal from Bogdanov, and the first half ended 1-1. The second half saw a complete turnaround as Ukraine scored twice early on. Kaulžnji put Ukraine ahead 2-1 in the 48th minute, followed by a stunning 20-meter strike from Ljusin in the 57th minute to make it 3-1. Despite Croatia's efforts, the score remained unchanged.

In the other Group B match, Italy U-19 defeated Serbia U-19 2-0. Goals came from Liberali (penalty) in the 11th minute and Iddrissou in the 76th minute. As a result, Ukraine and Italy lead the group with three points each, while Croatia and Serbia are yet to score.

Croatia U-19 will face Italy on July 2 in their second group match, followed by a match against Serbia on July 5. The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals.

Despite the disappointing start, Croatia still has two matches to turn things around. Under coach Siniša Oreščanin, the team will aim to secure positive results against Italy and Serbia to keep their semifinal hopes alive. The upcoming match against Italy is particularly crucial for Croatia's chances.
