Ceasefire Breached Once Again in Lebanon: Israel Conducts Airstrikes and Artillery Attacks on Southern Lebanon

The constant violation of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon continues to escalate tensions in the Middle East once again. On Monday evening, Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting the area located between the Kantara and Deyr Siryan regions in the south of the country. This attack stands out as merely a part of the systematic violations that have occurred since the ceasefire was declared between the two countries. According to information obtained from the region, immediately following the airstrike, Israeli artillery also struck the town of Hadata in the Bint Jbeil district. These conflicts have created a climate of great fear and uncertainty among the regional population, deepening concerns over an increase in civilian casualties.

The Israeli military's activities were not limited to airstrikes and artillery shelling; it was observed that a multi-front operation was being conducted in different areas. It was reported that severe artillery bombardment took place around the town of Deyr Siryan, particularly in the areas advancing towards the Litani River bed. At the same time, it was announced that a sound bomb was dropped by an Israeli drone approaching the Ghassan Dahır intersection on the İbl al-Saki road. Meanwhile, in an official statement from the Israeli military, it was confirmed that a reserve soldier was severely injured as a result of an explosion occurring during an ongoing military activity in southern Lebanon. These military losses and intense firepower indicate that Israel is persistent in its conflict strategy in the region and continues its operations without slowing down.

The latest data announced by the Lübnan Sağlık Bakanlığı reveals the devastating impact of the ongoing war in the country on civilians in all its nakedness. Between 2 Mart and 29 Haziran, the number of those who lost their lives in Israeli attacks reached 4 bin 257, and the number of injured reached 12 bin 196. These catastrophic figures prove the immense pressure that Lübnan's infrastructure and health system are under. The prolongation of the war has caused tens of thousands of people to flee their homes and migrate to different parts of the country, and even to neighboring countries. International human rights organizations find this excessively high number of civilian casualties concerning and call on the parties to comply with international law.

Despite all these violent incidents and military tension, diplomatic channels are not completely closed, and peace efforts are being maintained in various formats. Last Friday, Lübnan and Israel, under the auspices of the Amerika Birleşik Devletleri acting as a mediator, signed a framework agreement. The two countries, which do not have diplomatic relations with each other, managed to clarify this ceasefire and peace road map following difficult negotiations consisting of five rounds. This agreement is considered a major diplomatic turning point in terms of permanently ending the conflicts and ensuring regional stability. The international community sees the reflection of this framework on the ground and the silencing of weapons as a fundamental priority.

The content of the achieved framework agreement includes very comprehensive steps aimed at re-establishing the balance in the region. One of the most important clauses of the agreement is the re-establishment of an unarmed status in the region through the disarmament of Hizbullah. Additionally, it is planned that the Israeli military will gradually withdraw from the areas it captured as part of its military operations in southern Lübnan. Following this Israeli withdrawal, the task of ensuring control and security in the region will be transferred to the Lübnan Silahlı Kuvvetleri, which will be deployed in specific 'trial zones.' Whether these steps will be successfully implemented will be decisive for the future of the region and the establishment of lasting peace.
