Fire Breaks Out in City Hall in İtalya, Building Fills with Smoke

A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a municipal building located in the Ascoli Piceno region of İtalya. The fire, which started around 5.30 AM, originated from a vending machine for food and drinks located on the first floor of the building near the entrance. Based on initial investigations, it is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Immediately following the incident, local fire brigades were dispatched to the area, and the fire was brought under control quickly. The fire did not cause any severe damage to the building's structure, and the flames were confined to a small area.

The fact that the fire did not grow and no loss of life occurred allowed the incident to be overcome with minimal damage. The Ascoli Piceno fire crews, who responded to the fire, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the building after extinguishing the flames. The fire crews stated that all areas where smoke spread need to be urgently cleaned and disinfected. Even though the flames were confined to a limited area, the dense smoke and dust generated during the combustion spread rapidly to the corridors and offices. This situation temporarily rendered the workspaces unusable and halted the normal flow of administrative activities.

The mayor, Mauro Bochicchio, made a statement to inform the public regarding the incident. The mayor stated that the scale of the fire was small and no specific damage was done to the building's structure. However, he noted that the smoke and dust resulting from the fire spread inside the municipal building, temporarily rendering the offices unusable. Bochicchio emphasized that closing the municipal building was a mandatory decision in order to ensure the safety of the municipal staff and citizens. Furthermore, he added that a specialized company was hired to carry out the cleaning and disinfection procedures to make the building safe and healthy again.

The municipal administration announced that it needs approximately two days to completely clean and secure the building. Until this process is completed, all municipal departments will remain closed to the public and operations will be suspended. Citizens are asked to wait for the municipal building to reopen for non-urgent matters. Mayor Bochicchio apologized to all citizens for the inconvenience caused and requested their understanding and cooperation. Authorities stated that technical inspections will also be carried out after the cleaning procedures are finished, and only then will municipal services resume.

The fact that the incident did not result in any injuries is considered a great fortune by both the authorities and the local community. Although the fire caused limited material damage, the temporary suspension of municipal services is causing certain disruptions in the daily lives of the local population.
