Retirees in İzmir React to July Increases as 'Charity' with Protest and Action

DİSK Devrimci Emekliler Sendikası İzmir Şubesi held a press statement in front of the İzmir Sosyal Güvenlik İl Müdürlüğü to react harshly to the salary increases that came into effect in July.

Speaking on behalf of the union, Hüseyin Özkaynak emphasized that the increases made to retiree pensions were insufficient in view of current economic conditions and that these increases were far from meeting living costs.

In the speech, it was stated that retirees are struggling more and more every day and are being driven to a lifestyle below the hunger line due to financial impossibilities, drawing attention to the fact that the situation is characterized as a rights violation.

Hüseyin Özkaynak criticized the nature of the increase in salaries, stating that these amounts, which are far from increasing the welfare level of retirees, are of a charity nature and that such tiny increases could never be accepted by the retired public.

With this action and statements, a call was made to the authorities for the increase rates for retiree pensions to be re-evaluated and for retirees to reach a level of welfare at standards where they can live a life worthy of human dignity.
