Bribery and Tender Investigation into İzmit Municipality: Mayor Hürriyet in Custody

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a detention order was issued for 31 people, including İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet. The suspects were charged with establishing an organization to commit a crime, bribery, and rigging a tender.

According to the prosecutor's statement, findings were reached that the companies winning the tender had kinship ties with municipality officials and money was received under the name of commission from the companies doing business. In addition, a judicial process was initiated by stating that the mayor's spouse had a direct connection in tender processes, personnel recruitments, and position determinations.

In the operation conducted simultaneously in the provinces of Antalya, Kırıkkale, İzmit, İstanbul, and Ankara, 28 people have been detained so far. Among those detained are the mayor's spouse Murat Hürriyet, CHP İzmit District Chair Gökhan Ercan, and various municipality officials and company owners. It was reported that a search was also conducted at the İzmit Municipality building.
