Fatal accident in Karabük: 1 dead, 8 injured after vehicle crashes into truck from behind

A devastating traffic accident occurring in the afternoon at the Kemikli Rampaları location in the Eskipazar district of Karabük, known as drivers' nightmare, has plunged the region into mourning. An intercity passenger car carrying family members crashed into the rear of a truck traveling in the same direction at high speed and went under the vehicle. Due to the impact of the collision, the front of the car was completely crushed and turned into a heap of metal, while one of the passengers lost their life at the scene and eight people, including children, were evacuated with various injuries. Due to the severity of the accident, long traffic queues formed on the road, while surrounding citizens and other drivers mobilized to help the injured until health teams arrived.

While investigations continue regarding the definitive cause of the accident, initial information indicates that the car driven by 41-year-old driver Melek Yamak crashed into the truck driven by Mustafa A. from behind. Other drivers and citizens who reached the scene tried with great effort to extract the injured passengers from the vehicle, amidst the smoke coming from the car and the cries of the injured. Citizens made a great effort to calm the small children trapped in the car and in a state of shock and move them to a safe area. The body of 46-year-old father Yakup Yamak, who lost his life by being trapped inside the car, could only be removed from among the piles of iron after long efforts by fire crews and was taken to the Eskipazar State Hospital morgue for forensic examination.

After initial interventions at the scene and in ambulances, the injured among those in critical condition and four children were referred to Karabük Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi and treated in the emergency room. The unfortunate driver Melek Yamak suffered nervous breakdowns at the scene under the influence of the great shock and pain she experienced, bursting into tears holding herself responsible. On the other hand, the unfortunate woman, whose life is in danger and who constantly asks about her husband's condition, was taken to the hospital along with her children and other injured relatives. Upon notification of the accident, a large number of ambulances, fire trucks, and security forces were dispatched to the region from Karabük and surrounding districts.

As the accident occurred on the D-755 highway, a critical route connecting the Black Sea to inner regions, transportation was also disrupted. During the investigations at the scene and the work to remove the totaled car from the road, the road was opened to controlled traffic in a single lane for a long time. After the cleaning work was completed, the road was reopened to normal traffic. While detailed examinations by the public prosecutor and gendarmerie teams dispatched to the region continue, the circumstances of the accident and why the truck trailer was hit from behind are being meticulously investigated.

This tragic event once again serves as a warning regarding traffic safety and the importance of vehicle following distance, especially on curved or sloped roads. It is known that in areas with driving difficulty such as Kemikli Rampaları, the limits of braking and maneuvering capabilities become compulsory, and heavy vehicle travel requires extra attention. The entrapment caused by the car going under the truck revealed the vital risks and how much it complicates rescue efforts in similar accidents. On the other hand, the efforts of the citizens who intervened at the scene played a critical role in the survival of the injured and getting through with minimal damage. The health condition of the injured is being closely monitored, and police teams continue their work to determine the details of the accident.
