Forest fire in Kastamonu extinguished from the air and ground

A fire broke out in a forested area near Toygaören village, on the border of Kastamonu’s Daday and Araç districts. Thanks to the fire watchtowers established in the region, the flames were noticed at an early stage and authorities were immediately informed. Upon the alert, Kastamonu Orman Bölge Müdürlüğü teams were directed to the scene without losing any time. The early warning system was one of the most important factors that kept the fire confined to a small area.

The point of origin of the fire was a region surrounded by steep cliffs and was quite difficult to access. These challenging terrain conditions largely prevented the ground crews from intervening directly. However, the teams brought in heavy machinery to open new roads through the forested area, thus enabling them to reach the point where the flames were. This determination, despite the difficulty of the terrain, made it possible to intervene in a timely manner.

While the ground crews continued their road-opening efforts, aerial support was also quickly dispatched to the area. The firefighting helicopter standing by at Kastamonu Havalimanı reached the fire area in a short time. The water drops made by the helicopter from above facilitated the advance of the ground crews and prevented the fire from spreading to a wider area. This coordinated effort between air and ground elements played a critical role in fighting the fire.

As a result of the intensive and coordinated intervention, the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished in a short time. In an official statement made by Kastamonu Orman Bölge Müdürlüğü, it was reported that the flames were completely extinguished, but cooling operations were continuing in the region. It was stated that the teams continued to work meticulously on the ground as there could be a risk of re-ignition in the areas where the fire was extinguished due to wind or hot weather.

Following the incident, officials reminded that the risk of forest fires reaches serious dimensions with the increase in temperatures during the summer months. Citizens were called upon to absolutely not light fires in forested areas, not to throw cigarette butts into nature, and to immediately report any suspicious situation to the 112 or 177 emergency lines. This incident in Kastamonu clearly demonstrated how a major ecological disaster can be prevented thanks to the importance of surveillance systems and the rapid coordination of the teams.
