Passenger Bus Overturns in Kırıkkale: 1 Dead, 40 Injured

A passenger bus traveling from Tekirdağ to Kayseri lost control and overturned in a traffic accident near the Karakeçili district of Kırıkkale. The accident is reported to have occurred in the early morning hours, with morning frost making the road slippery. It has been learned that a total of 41 people in the bus were injured, and despite all medical interventions performed at the hospital, one of the injured could not be saved. Following the accident, a large number of emergency and medical teams were dispatched to the area. The scene was secured, and the injured were transported to surrounding hospitals.

AFAD, fire department, medical, gendarmerie, and police teams were swiftly dispatched to the area to respond to the accident. While initial treatments were administered at the scene according to the condition of the injured, those severely injured were taken to various hospitals in Kırıkkale by ambulances. It was announced that a total of 41 people were injured in the accident, 3 of whom are in severe condition and have been placed in intensive care. Tekmile Atasoy, one of the injured receiving treatment, could not be saved despite all medical interventions at the hospital and lost her life. While condolences were offered to the relatives of the deceased passenger, intensive efforts continue for the recovery of the other injured.

Kırıkkale Governor Hüseyin Engin Sarıibrahim conducted inspections at the scene and received information from authorities. In his statement, Governor Sarıibrahim confirmed that there were a total of 41 people on the bus, consisting of 38 passengers, 2 drivers, and 1 assistant, and that all of them were injured. Noting that three of the injured are in severe condition and are being closely monitored, he conveyed his get-well wishes to all the injured. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the causes of the accident and identify any potential negligence. Following the inspections at the scene, the Governor shared details regarding the tragic incident with members of the press.

Authorities and the Kırıkkale Governor announced that one of the main causes of the accident was weather conditions. It was stated that the morning frost made the road extremely slippery, leading the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. This incident once again highlighted the significant impact of weather and road conditions on traffic safety. Governor Sarıibrahim emphasized that the use of seat belts in public transport vehicles is extremely vital to prevent the recurrence of such accidents. He warned that all passengers must fasten their seat belts while traveling on buses for their own personal safety.

Following the tragic accident, the driver of the bus was taken into custody within the scope of the investigation to give his statement. The investigation is ongoing to clarify whether the accident was solely due to weather conditions or if other factors such as driver error or vehicle poor maintenance also played a role. Security forces have also taken the vehicle's black box and its technical condition under examination in addition to the driver's statement. The judicial process initiated by both the gendarmerie and the prosecutor's office is continuing in all its dimensions. Authorities stated that the findings obtained as a result of the investigation will be shared with the public and that necessary administrative or legal sanctions will be applied.
