Major Power Outage in Kırım: Water and Personnel Issues Persist

Ongoing power outages in the Kırım Yarımadası continue to severely affect daily life in the region. It has been reported that electricity services have not yet been fully restored, particularly in the cities of Cankoy, Krasnoperekopsk, and Ermenisk, along with their surrounding districts. This situation has created significant difficulties in lighting, heating, and meeting basic needs in the area. While people try to carry on with their lives in dark streets and homes, authorities have mobilized to resolve the issue. However, repair work is progressing slowly due to the security situation in the region.

The main cause of the outages was announced as drone attacks that occurred on the night of 8 Temmuz and caused severe damage to the electrical infrastructure. The extent of the damage in the region following the attack prevented emergency teams from intervening quickly. Authorities link the question of when electricity services will fully resume directly to the safety of the crews working on the ground. This uncertainty increases the level of concern and anxiety among the local population day by day. Various local media outlets are also closely following the issue, trying to convey the developments to the public.

The repercussions of the power outages have not been limited to lighting alone; they have also deeply affected transportation and water services. For instance, in Yevpatoriya, a resort town, it was reported that due to an accident on 10 Temmuz, trams became inoperable and intra-city transportation was paralyzed. Furthermore, it was announced that water supplies were cut off in more than 20 settlements on the peninsula due to infrastructure-dependent failures. In these villages, where agricultural and drinking water needs cannot be met, people are facing the threat of dehydration. Authorities emphasize that teams are working day and night to repair the water and power lines, but the process is prolonged due to the complexity of the task.

Severe weather conditions also continue to be a significant factor deepening the current crisis in the region. On the night of 9-10 Temmuz, severe wind and storms caused further damage to a power line in Aluşta, leaving approximately 1650 subscribers in the dark. Authorities stated that they resolved this issue quickly by reactivating the line, but noted that the overall situation remains at a critical level. Residents in the region are constantly concerned that new failures may occur due to both adverse weather and security issues. This situation further increases the pressure on the repair teams.

A regional state of emergency (OHAL) was declared in Kırım, emphasizing the severity of the situation once again. Despite all these adversities, hospitals, emergency services, and other critical infrastructure facilities continue their normal operations thanks to backup power sources. The risk of repeated alerts and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks across the peninsula makes life in the region even more difficult. Local administrations urge the public not to panic and to follow only official announcements. However, the question of when the power and water outages will end remains a major uncertainty for the local population.
