Lebanese President Aoun met with US Secretary of State Rubio in Washington

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun arrived in the US capital, Washington DC, as part of an official visit. As part of his contacts, Aoun met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss the implementation process of the tripartite framework agreement, which stipulates the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanese territories. The US side expressed its appreciation for the Lebanese government's efforts to disarm Hezbollah and establish the country's sovereignty.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Washington administration will continue to support Lebanon's steps toward economic recovery and the establishment of lasting peace. President Aoun, on the other hand, stressed that the Israeli army must immediately withdraw from the initially agreed pilot zone. Furthermore, he requested an increase in military support to be provided to the Lebanese army and US investment in civilian sectors such as energy and transportation.

Joseph Aoun is also expected to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday. During the meeting between the two leaders, the current situation in Lebanon, the strengthening of the ceasefire, and the steps for withdrawal from the Israeli-occupied territories will be discussed. The main dispute between the parties stems from Lebanon's demand for a faster Israeli withdrawal and Israel's insistence on the disarmament of Hezbollah.
