Lula Recorded Video for STF Crisis, Did Not Name Moraes

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recorded a video to address the public regarding the scandal involving the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and allegations linking former banker Daniel Vorcaro to Bank Master. The video was recorded on Thursday (August 3) and is scheduled for release on Friday (August 4) on social media and the electoral program. While Lula mentioned the Court and the bank by name, he did not name any justices, including Alexandre de Moraes.

The electoral campaign decided to maintain Lula's stance in his capacity as president, using an "institutional" tone rather than as a candidate. The strategy aims to avoid personalizing the crisis, instead generalizing criticism onto the "system"; this approach parallels the statement made the previous day by PT Party President Edinho Silva. The campaign team expressed concern that the Moraes scandal could benefit the right in the elections, and therefore viewed Lula's direct intervention as risky.

Prior to the strategy shift, Lula held meetings with STF justices due to the crisis triggered by the scandal. Starting Tuesday (August 1), he met separately with three justices: Edson Fachin, Gilmar Mendes, and Flávio Dino. These meetings took place while the presidential team assessed the potential political impacts.
