Malaysian Indian People's Party holds bilateral talks with UMNO ahead of Negeri Sembilan elections

As the Negeri Sembilan state elections approach, S. Subramaniam, Secretary-General of the Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) within Perikatan Nasional (PN), announced that his party is conducting direct negotiations with UMNO. Subramaniam stated that these talks are not new and that an official invitation was previously extended to their party leaders to join the National Front (BN).

The discussions address potential cooperation opportunities in the upcoming elections. Subramaniam also expressed that the issue of cooperation between PAS and UMNO has not yet been discussed in the PN high-level committee meeting. He emphasized that the stance taken by PAS in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections was the decision of the party's own leadership, and that no decision on the matter was made in the PN committee.

On the other hand, PAS Leader Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that talks with UMNO for the Negeri Sembilan elections are ongoing. It was reported that PAS proposed yielding the 14 constituencies it holds to UMNO, and subsequently discussing the distribution of the 17 constituencies controlled by Pakatan Harapan (PH). Additionally, it was stated that the two constituencies currently held by Bersatu could also be on the table during these negotiations.
