Parliamentary Committee Hears Social Media Representatives on School Attacks and Digital Risks

The Investigative Committee on School Incidents and Digital Risks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş convened to discuss school safety and the impacts of digital platforms. Representatives of major social media companies such as X, Google, Meta, and TikTok made presentations to the deputies regarding the safety and moderation mechanisms on their platforms.

Committee Chairman and AK Party Tokat Deputy Yusuf Beyazıt emphasized that school safety cannot be evaluated solely by physical boundaries. Stating that risks that begin in the digital world can grow through social platforms and spill over into schools, he expressed the need for a holistic approach to protect children from all forms of violence.

At the meeting, the TikTok representative reported that more than 50 safety settings are enabled by default for users aged 13-17. The representative, who also shared details about interventions regarding violent content, announced that in the first half of 2026, hundreds of thousands of accounts of users under the age of 13 were banned and millions of pieces of content were removed in Turkey.
