Mexican Medical Students Participated in Endocrinology Training in Barcelona

Students from the Medical School of Anáhuac Puebla University, based in Mexico, participated in an important endocrinology course held in Barcelona, Spain, as part of internationalization and advanced medical education strategies. This program, conducted in close collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), which has great prestige in the field of health sciences, aims to significantly improve students' theoretical knowledge and clinical vision. Participants had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the latest scientific and clinical developments in endocrinology, accompanied by world-renowned academics. Such international experiences are considered a critical requirement for future physicians to be able to compete on a global scale. Thus, the students completed a privileged educational process, enriching themselves both professionally and culturally.

A total of 26 medical students from the Puebla, Oaxaca, and Veracruz-Córdoba campuses of the Anáhuac Universities Network participated in this intensive academic program. Throughout the program, the students were subjected to an intensive curriculum totaling 40 hours, which included 25 theoretical sessions and seven different specialization seminars in the field. The training was held at the Modernist Sant Pau – Casa de Convalescència building, the academic center of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, fully recognized in the international arena for its quality in health sciences and biomedical research. This historical and prestigious venue offered students an inspiring atmosphere and represented the deepest-rooted medical traditions in the field. This intensive academic schedule allowed the participants to consolidate their in-depth knowledge of endocrinology.

The academic coordination of the training process was successfully carried out by Dr. Rosa Corcoy, who has international recognition in endocrinology and diabetes. Dr. Juliana Gutiérrez Vázquez accompanied the students, guiding them through the clinical case analysis process and helping them evaluate real medical scenarios encountered in the field. In the sessions conducted under the guidance of experts, current treatment methods for diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic and endocrine diseases with high prevalence rates were discussed in detail. This interactive and case-based educational model allowed students to learn by questioning current medical literature and clinical practices. This fruitful academic dialogue between the two parties significantly increased the students' self-confidence in the management of complex endocrinological disorders.

Not wishing to limit their international experiences solely to the classroom, the medical students organized a detailed academic trip to Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, one of Spain's most important university hospitals. In addition, the participants visited the Pharmaceutical Research Center, where drug development processes and biomedical research are conducted, finding the opportunity to examine on-site how clinical research and treatment protocols are designed. These field visits to the hospital and research laboratories directly linked and integrated theoretical endocrinology knowledge with real patient care processes and current pharmacological innovations. Thanks to these visits, the students had the advantage of getting to know closely the healthcare service models and application methods at international standards. The interactive trip program was highly enlightening in terms of their grasping the multidisciplinary nature of modern medicine.
