Morelia Municipality Provides Food Support to 2 Thousand People with the 'Feeding for the Common Good' Program

The municipal government in Morelia, Mexico, has launched a social support program called "Feeding for the Common Good" aimed at strengthening the economic situation of families in need. Within the scope of the program, which started service on Wednesday, food packages are being distributed to 2 thousand people in the first stage. The most striking innovation of the program this year is that not only women, but also grandmothers and some fathers who take on the responsibility of providing for and caring for the household are included in the target audience.

The Secretary of Common Good and Social Policy, Rosalva Vanegas Garduño, stated that this rule change is a response to today's diverse and changing family dynamics. It was announced at the first distribution ceremony that each beneficiary received three food packages, covering three quarters (a six-month period). The remaining food supports are planned to be completed with a second distribution to be held in October and November.

The Mayor of Morelia, Alfonso Martínez Alcázar, emphasized that the main purpose of this initiative is to strengthen the economy of the families most in need. The municipality prioritized supporting individuals who take on the daily livelihood of the household. Thus, the local administration continues to take concrete steps to improve the welfare of the vulnerable population in the city.
