Claims of GBT screening for all travelers to Ankara denied ahead of NATO Summit

The Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has officially denied claims that all travelers heading to Ankara are being subjected to GBT (General Information Screening) due to the NATO Summit. In a statement, the DMM emphasized that such allegations are unfounded and intended to mislead the public. The center urged citizens to rely only on information from official sources.

GBT screening is a security procedure used by law enforcement to check individuals' criminal records and security information. It is typically applied to persons with a criminal history or those considered security risks. However, the DMM clearly stated that no such blanket screening is being conducted for all travelers to Ankara.

The NATO Summit took place on July 11-12, 2023, in Vilnius, Lithuania. Prior to and during the summit, various security measures were implemented in Turkey, but there was no practice of mass GBT screening at entry points to Ankara. The DMM's statement aims to counter the spread of false information on this matter.

The Center for Combating Disinformation regularly issues statements against baseless claims circulating on social media and some news sites. It advises the public to follow official sources to access accurate information and avoid being misled by disinformation.
