Persona Live-Action TV Show in the Works at Netflix

Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action TV series adaptation of the critically acclaimed Persona RPG franchise from Sega and Atlus. According to Variety, the streamer has begun work on the project, with Christopher Monfette, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1, attached as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The series is in early development, and Netflix declined to comment.

Other executive producers include Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps, as well as Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen. Sega producer Toru Nakahara is also attached. The plot details remain unclear; it is unknown whether the series will adapt a specific game or tell an original story. The Persona franchise, which began in 1996, includes five mainline games, numerous spin-offs, and remakes, providing ample source material.

The most recent main entry, Persona 5, introduced the Phantom Thieves in 2016 and was expanded with Persona 5 Royal in 2024. As the project is early in development, no release date or casting information has been announced. Netflix has previously collaborated with 21 Laps on Stranger Things and other projects like The Perfect Couple and Last Man Standing. Levy also directed Deadpool & Wolverine for Netflix.

Story Kitchen has been involved in several video game adaptations, including the Sonic the Hedgehog films, and has future projects based on Sifu, It Takes Two, Just Cause, and Life is Strange. The Persona series joins a growing list of video game adaptations at Netflix, which also includes a Gears of War movie in development. Fans are already speculating about which elements or characters might appear in the series.

While waiting for more updates, fans can look forward to Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6, which was recently announced.
