Night Attack on Odesa: Search and Rescue Operations Under the Rubble Continue

Odesa, the strategic port city in southern Ukraine, became the target of a new nighttime air attack carried out by Russia. This attack, which occurred during the night hours of 6 Temmuz, caused severe damage and destruction in various parts of the city. According to initial information obtained from officials of the Odesa Bölgesel Askeri İdaresi, a large number of structures were adversely affected by the impact of the munitions used in the attack. In two of the areas targeted, private homes, a dormitory building, and garages were heavily damaged. Rescue teams swiftly dispatched to the scene began search operations to find possible survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings. It is reported that the civilian population living in the area is deeply concerned about these attacks and that moments of panic were experienced.

Serhiy Lysak, Head of the Odesa Askeri İdaresi, made a statement to inform the public following the attack, sharing details about the situation. According to the information provided by Lysak, a massive fire broke out in the area where the garages are located during the attack in the Kiev region. However, thanks to the intervention of the fire brigades, this fire was brought under control and extinguished in a short time. Additionally, the shockwave created by the attack shattered the windows of surrounding residential buildings and caused severe material damage. An operations center, quickly activated around the scene, continues its operations to provide emergency counseling and support services to local residents. Such centers are of critical importance in rapidly meeting the needs of the civilian population.

It was confirmed that in addition to severe material damage, there were also civilian casualties in the attack. It was stated that a 23-year-old young man was injured in the attack carried out in the region and was immediately taken under medical treatment by local healthcare personnel. Authorities shared the information that the health condition of the injured young man is stable and that all the medical interventions he needs are being applied flawlessly. The devastating impact of the war on civilians shows itself once again in such incidents. Although the absence of fatalities is considered a great fortune, the local population continues to live with the fear of facing similar dangers at any moment. Health teams are kept on high alert for potential new cases in the region.

According to the latest data received as of 07:00 in the morning, the most damaged area of Odesa was the Kiev district. Among the structures in this area that suffered heavy damage from the impact of munitions are five private homes and a student dormitory. Due to structural collapses occurring in the dormitory building and the residences, search and rescue teams are meticulously continuing their debris removal efforts. Rescue workers are working uninterruptedly to clarify whether anyone is trapped under the rubble. On the other hand, in the Hadzhibey region, local authorities took swift action, and the cleanup operations around the buildings have been largely completed. To support the affected residents, 26 compensation claims have been officially received to date, and it was reported that the process is being operated.

Despite this difficult and frightening night, the fact that the city's main infrastructure systems and local services continued to operate without disruption provided some relief for the public. The tramway tracks damaged during the attack were repaired in a short time thanks to the rapid intervention of transportation teams that lasted throughout the night. Thanks to this swift solution, it was ensured that public transportation continued its services without interruption in the morning, aiming to return city life (the tracks) to normal. The rapid repair of the physical damages caused by the attacks by local administrations and municipal teams showcases the city's resilience. Regional administrators emphasize that despite these difficult conditions, the people of Odesa remain standing and that defense and recovery efforts will continue with determination.
