Pakistan to introduce online Hajj payments as 2027 registrations top 150,000

Pakistan will allow aspiring pilgrims to pay Hajj dues online for the first time through the country’s 1LINK interbank network, the Religious Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday, eliminating the need to visit bank branches as authorities accelerate preparations for Hajj 2027 amid ongoing registration for the pilgrimage. So far, over 150,000 people have registered for the 2027 Hajj. The new system aims to make payments secure and fast, reducing queues and improving efficiency.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and millions of Muslims visit the holy sites in Saudi Arabia each year. Pakistan has one of the largest Muslim populations in the world, and hundreds of thousands apply for Hajj annually. The fact that registrations for 2027 have already exceeded 150,000 indicates high demand. The online payment system will eliminate the need for pilgrims to wait in long lines at bank branches, speeding up transactions and enhancing security.

1LINK is a well-known interbank network in Pakistan that facilitates transactions between banks. Payments through this network will allow pilgrims to pay using any bank account or credit card. The Religious Affairs Ministry emphasized that this new initiative is a significant step toward digitizing the Hajj process. Officials confirmed that the system has passed testing and will be launched soon. Pilgrims will be able to choose their preferred payment method during registration.
