Muharram and Karbala Discussed in Sivasi Conversations

The "Sivasi Conversations" series, successfully organized by the Bursa Sivaslılar Culture and Solidarity Association's Culture and Art Commission, concluded its season with a magnificent final. The 12th meeting of the series, held at the association's premises, focused on the topic of "Mah-ı Muharram" (the month of Muharram) as the spiritual atmosphere of Muharram was entered. The program began with verses by Mehmet Âkif Ersoy describing the sorrow of Karbala, and the guest of the week was İsmail Maden Dede. Maden Dede conveyed the spiritual depth of the month of Muharram and the historical process of the Karbala incident, one of the greatest tragedies in Islamic history, to the participants. He summarized the background from the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad to Karbala, emphasizing that unity is not just being together but uniting in hearts.

During the event, elegies (mersiye) were performed by a zakir (religious singer) at the night prepared and presented by Muhsin Ertuğrul Kemikli, head of the Culture and Art Commission. The elegies created emotional moments in the hall, and participants commemorated the martyrs of Karbala. At the end of the program, Association President Üzeyir Dal presented a gift to İsmail Maden Dede in memory of the day. The event concluded with the traditional offering of ashura (a sweet pudding) to the guests. The ashura offering symbolized the abundance of the month of Muharram and the culture of sharing.

The Sivasi Conversations series hosted important figures such as Muhsin Kaya, Hasan Basri Öcalan, Ahmet Sakarya, Cağfer Karadaş, Mehmet Erdem Tokuş, Bilal Kemikli, Süreyya Beyzadeoğlu, Murat Coşkun, Ertan Taşkın, Cengiz Apaydın, and Canan Kulaksız Tarçın during its first season. These figures held conversations on Sivas culture and history, strengthening the bonds among fellow townspeople. The association aimed to build a cultural bridge among Sivas natives through this series. Each meeting provided participants with in-depth knowledge on different topics while reinforcing the spirit of solidarity.

Association officials announced that the Sivasi Conversations series will resume in September after a short summer break. The series will continue with different topics and guests in the new term, aiming to increase cultural activities and social solidarity.
