Tamar Tanrıyar Surrendered in Kuşadası: Released with Judicial Control

Journalist Tamar Tanrıyar surrendered in Kuşadası following an arrest warrant issued due to her social media posts, which included the accusation of publicly disseminating misleading information. It was reported that Tanrıyar was detained as a result of operations launched after she was identified departing the country by boat from the Marmaris Deniz Hudut Kapısı. Tanrıyar, who voluntarily returned from abroad and surrendered to authorities on a ship in Kuşadası, had her statement taken via SEGBİS (Audio and Video Informatics System). It was announced that within the scope of the investigation conducted by the İstanbul Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı, the suspect was referred to the Sulh Ceza Hakimliği after her statement was taken. The magistracy decided to apply judicial control measures on the suspect, releasing Tamar Tanrıyar.

In the official statement made by the Başsavcılık, it was emphasized that Tamar Tanrıyar is under investigation for the crime of publicly disseminating misleading information. It was stated that the investigation process is continuing meticulously, and it was noted that all digital materials and devices belonging to the suspect were confiscated. The origin of the incident is based on a series of remarkable video shares made by Tanrıyar, in which she did not use names but the individuals and institutions she implied were clear. The claims put forward in these videos focused on the distribution of illicit gains and organic ties among various media organizations known to be both pro-government and pro-opposition. Authorities took action after evaluating that these shares could disrupt public order.

One of the main themes Tanrıyar defended in her statement was that she did not directly target any person or media organization in her posts. Stating that she only spoke about newspaper distribution processes and the political/financial relations behind them in her videos, Tanrıyar expressed that the distribution of a newspaper owned by a figure being tried within the scope of the FETÖ/PDY armed terrorist organization crime should be questioned. Additionally, she stated that she shared her personal convictions regarding the existence of a 'crypto brotherhood' containing fund transfers and secret partnerships between media organs that appear to be close to and far from the government. Tanrıyar claimed that she based these claims not on intelligence units or official documents, but on her journalism experience gained over the years and various meetings. She emphasized that rather than insulting the President, she was warning against this structure surrounding him, and that her main purpose was public enlightenment.

In the videos that caused the scandal, Tanrıyar had described the Turkuvaz Medya group and its affiliated organizations distributing Sözcü newspaper, and even the aforementioned group taking over the newly established Tavır newspaper, as a serious issue. Presenting this situation as proof that media institutions seemingly on different poles actually unite around the same financial interests, Tanrıyar claimed that all these plans were realized in secret meetings in Londra and İsviçre. Referring in her claims to figures such as 60 milyon dolar announced by Burak Akbay's lawyers and offshore accounts abroad, Tanrıyar alleged that the media was purchased and manipulated through this method. Furthermore, Tanrıyar warned the public by claiming that during the period when channels such as Tele1 and Flash TV were sold through the TMSF, the same interest groups identified new targets. These threatening expressions were deemed sufficient by the authorities to launch an investigation.

This legal process and the claims behind it once again revealed the complex economic and political relations within Türkiye's dense media landscape. Tanrıyar specifically emphasizing that her spouse had no connection to the incident underscored that the news was the product of individual research. The words spoken in the video, '1 Temmuz'a kadar müsaade, koptunuz koptunuz', drew attention as they indicated the journalist was giving a clear ultimatum to the relevant organizations. It was learned that Tanrıyar, who is outside under judicial control conditions, plans to share new details on her YouTube channel in the coming days.
