IOC temporarily lifts suspension of Russian Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made an important decision by temporarily lifting the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). This decision is considered a major step towards allowing Russian athletes to participate in the 2028 Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles alongside all other athletes. International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry emphasized that it is extremely important for athletes to have the opportunity to participate in the Games regarding the decision. Coventry stated that they desire all athletes to have the chance to come to the Olympic Games, noting that this decision serves that goal. Russian Sports Minister Mihail Degtyarev stated that with the country's return to the Olympic family, the way has also been opened for all sports federations. Degtyarev added that this development allows for Russian athletes to be readmitted to international federations. In the past, Russian athletes had to compete under a neutral athlete status at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 Milano-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Games. This new decision is expected to significantly change Russia's position in the international sports arena.
