Citizenship Gang Operation: 72 People Detained

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated on his social media account that an operation was carried out against a crime organization that granted Turkish citizenship to foreign nationals through fraudulent sales transactions. The operation was conducted by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Immigration and Border Gates Branch, in coordination with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau. In the investigation, it was determined that approximately 2.5 billion lira, which was supposed to enter Turkey, did not enter the country, and instead, fictitious money movements were created, and unfair benefits were obtained from foreign nationals who wanted to acquire Turkish citizenship. It was also found that 687 people acquired Turkish citizenship through this method.
