Illegal Ticket Seller Attacked ACTV Employees in Venedik: Inspector Injured in the Head

Two employees of ACTV, the company operating public transportation in the legendary Italian city of Venedik, were subjected to violent attacks just a few hours apart. The incidents, which occurred on the night between 27 Haziran and 28 Haziran Pazar, caused a massive outcry in the city. In the first attack, a female maritime transport worker (marinaia) on duty was targeted by an illegal ticket seller. The individual involved in illegal ticket trading allegedly used excessive violence against the female employee who attempted to intervene. Authorities once again highlighted how great a threat such illegal commercial activities pose to the city's security through this grave incident.

The second grave incident, which occurred shortly after, took place at Piazzale Roma, one of the city's major transportation hubs. In this incident, an ACTV ticket inspector faced a violent reaction from a passenger while performing routine checks. During the physical scuffle, the inspector was severely injured and suffered a blow to the head. The injured personnel was taken from the scene to the hospital and admitted to the emergency room for treatment. This chilling attack painfully revealed the immense risks ticket inspectors work under in public transportation systems.

These two consecutive attacks highlighted the security vulnerability created by illegal ticket sellers and aggressive passengers in the area. In a city like Venedik, which attracts intense interest from tourists, discussions began regarding the urgent need for new measures to protect the personnel who ensure the proper functioning of transportation systems. As part of the newly developed security strategies, increasing the number of camera systems at water bus (vaporetto) docks and bus terminals was brought to the agenda. Additionally, it is planned to provide all transportation workers with extra self-defense and crisis management training on how to protect themselves against violent attacks. These distressing incidents have compelled the city's administrators to take more concrete steps to guarantee not only the safety of travelers but also the safety of the workers who maintain the city's operations and sustain vital daily services. Public transport personnel are demanding support from authorities during their duties and that the perpetrators of violence be subjected to the heaviest penalties to prevent these severe injuries from recurring.
