Hong Wang Solved the Needle Puzzle That Remained Unsolved for Over a Century and Won the Fields Medal

The Fields Medal, considered the highest honor in the mathematics world, will be awarded to Chinese mathematician Hong Wang in 2026.

Wang was deemed worthy of this prestigious award thanks to her solution to a needle problem (the Kakeya needle problem) that had remained unsolved for more than a century.
