Harsh Reaction from AK Party Spokesperson Çelik to the Bomb Attacks in Damascus

AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik strongly condemned the bomb attacks that occurred in the Syrian capital of Damascus, through a new statement made via his social media account. In his statement, Çelik once again demonstrated Turkey's clear stance against terrorist acts in the region. Emphasizing that they stand by the brotherly Syrian people, Çelik underlined that such violent acts would harm regional peace. Noting that the attacks targeted civilian areas, causing great concern, the AK Party spokesperson called on the international community to be sensitive to the issue. This statement was considered an important step reinforcing Turkey's determination to ensure stability in the neighboring country.

Two separate explosions that occurred right in the center of the Syrian capital, Damascus, very close to the Ministry of Tourism building, caused great panic. The fact that the area where the explosions occurred is one of the busiest and most strategic points of the city further increased the impact of the incident. While many buildings in the area suffered material damage, surrounding security forces launched a large-scale investigation. Initial assessments made at the scene indicate that powerful explosives were used in the blasts. Security cameras and witness statements hold important clues regarding how the attacks were carried out.

The location where these violent explosions occurred was in very close proximity to the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron, who recently visited the region, also stayed. The proximity of Macron's hotel to this dangerous area revealed the international dimension and potential risks of the incident. It is not yet fully known how much the security protocols of the French delegation have been tightened following this event. However, the occurrence of such an attack in a city hosting such a high-level state guest also brought up claims of security vulnerabilities. It was noteworthy that at the time of the explosions, French President Emmanuel Macron was at the Presidential Palace to hold a critical meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Şara. This high-level meeting held by the two leaders at the palace took place in a highly tense and anxious atmosphere due to the explosions. It is stated that the main agenda items of the meeting were the reconstruction of Syria, ensuring regional stability, and combating terrorism. Although the distance of the Presidential Palace from the explosion point indicated that the leaders were physically safe, the cyber and psychological pressure created by the act did not disappear. Following these concerning developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey did not remain indifferent to the issue and made an official statement. In the written statement made by the Ministry, the treacherous bomb attacks carried out in the Syrian capital of Damascus were condemned in the strongest terms. Foreign Affairs officials, emphasizing that Turkey stands against all terrorist acts targeting Syria's territorial integrity and the peace of its people, called for a joint struggle. In the statement, it was also shared that they are in coordination with relevant authorities to clarify whether there were any casualties or injuries in the attacks. This stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again confirmed the constructive and peacekeeping role Turkey assumes in resolving regional crises.
