Bangladesh Border Guards Repel India's 'Push-in' Attempt in Seylhet

The Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) has successfully prevented a 'push-in' attempt maintained by Indian border units along the border line in the Companyganj area of Seylhet. BGB teams, which stopped a total of seven individuals whom the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to force into Bangladeshi territory, quickly took position in the area and rendered this attempt unsuccessful. This incident has once again revealed the existence of tensions in the sensitive border region between the two neighboring countries. Bangladeshi officials announced that the situation has been brought under control and border security has been increased. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 9 July, in the Kalairag border area of the companyganj district. The border violation attempt in the area required BGB units to be on high alert along with the de facto situation that occurred before dawn. Security sources confirmed that the team dispatched to the scene in the shortest possible time physically prevented the individuals in question from advancing towards the interior of the country. According to the information obtained from the Seylhet 48. BGB Battalion Commandery, the group that attempted the push-in included both men and women. It was stated that these individuals, who were intended to be crossed the border illegally, had intruded approximately 20 to 25 yards into Bangladeshi territory from the international border. However, the rapid and effective deployment of the BGB to the area completely thwarted this attempt by Indian soldiers. Illegal crossings from both sides of the border have long remained one of the contentious issues between the two countries. Security forces have launched a comprehensive search and prevention operation to stop illegal border crossings.

Following this border crisis, security measures in the area have been raised to the highest level and the number of patrols has been increased.
