BBC's global audience exceeds 500 million

The British broadcaster BBC announced that it broke a record in its weekly global audience figures, reaching 502 million people. The company's international audience showed an 11 percent increase compared to the previous year. This significant growth covers all content distributed through the institution's news bulletins, BBC World Service, and BBC Studios. Officials emphasize that the biggest driving force behind this historic success is the institution's digital transformation strategy. Additionally, it is noted that significant news streams that have recently marked the global agenda had a major impact on the increase of these figures.

BBC News's weekly audience increased by approximately 50 million people, rising to 467 million, indicating a remarkable 12 percent growth compared to the previous year. BBC World Service, which is the backbone of the institution's international reach, reached 355 million people weekly. This success of World Service represents a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year and alone constitutes more than 70 percent of the institution's total international audience. Notably, the audience of World Service on digital platforms grew by more than 40 percent during the same period, drawing attention. The institution also announced that it retained its title as the most trusted international news provider globally and ranked first in reliability and independence. Jonathan Munro, Interim CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, stated that they are incredibly proud of this tremendous global growth. He emphasized that thanks to the depth and breadth of its news, the BBC continues to be the choice of people worldwide. In particular, global crises in different parts of the world have caused massive surges in audience numbers for regional BBC services. The ongoing war in Ukraine has more than tripled the reach of the BBC News Ukrainian service, and it now reaches more than a fifth of the adults in the country. The protests in Iran and the tensions between the US-Israel and Iran have led people to turn to BBC News Persian to find reliable news, and this service reached nearly 24 million people weekly. In Latin America, the power of social media has shown itself; BBC News Brasil and BBC News Mundo recorded audience increases of 58 percent and 40 percent, respectively. The institution stated that the intensive growth in these regions is attributed to their successful social media strategies on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
