In Brazil, Municipal Guards Intervened in 12 Thousand Incidents in Half a Year, 105 Fugitives Caught

In the city of Balneário Camboriú, located in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, the Municipal Guard (Guarda Municipal) announced an impressive performance report for the first six months of 2026. A total of 12 thousand 99 incidents were recorded, encompassing incident response, crime fighting, and preventive patrol activities. This figure clearly demonstrates the active and uninterrupted presence of the city's security forces on the ground. As a result of the intensive efforts of the security units, 105 fugitives who had escaped from the authorities were also caught and detained. Additionally, 54 lost or stolen vehicles were returned to their owners, while 354 individuals were referred to the regional police station for processing. Detailed data published by the Secretariat of Security reveals the crimes for which the individuals referred to the police station were processed. During this six-month period, the highest number of referrals occurred for theft and drug trafficking crimes. Within the scope of theft incidents, 85 individuals, and within the scope of drug trafficking or possession crimes, 84 individuals were handed over to the relevant authorities by law enforcement. The prominence of these two crime categories indicates how intense the fight against property crimes and organized crime elements is in the city. The efforts of the Municipal Guard in this regard directly contribute to both ensuring street safety and preventing illegal trade. These numerical data obtained are considered concrete reflections of the security units' strategies of providing deterrence before a crime is committed and responding swiftly after it is committed.

The first month of the year stood out as the busiest and most intense period for the Municipal Guards. In January alone, 2 thousand 505 incidents were responded to, which corresponds to an average of 81 calls per day. This high density proves that the security units in the city operate with great dedication and speed. Additionally, January went down in records as the month with the highest number of caught fugitives; within this single month, 25 fugitives were caught to be brought to justice. Regarding vehicle recovery efforts, January and April were determined to be the most successful months; in both months, 12 cars were found and returned to their owners. June peaked in individual referrals to the police station, standing out with a total of 79 cases.

The Secretary of Security and Public Order, Carlos Alberto de Araújo Gomes Júnior, emphasized that these striking figures are not coincidental. The Secretary stated that at the basis of these successes lie meticulous planning, the use of intelligence, and serious investments in the secretariat's structure. Gomes Júnior expressed that the effective use of preventive patrol activities and crime analysis data played a decisive role in reducing crime rates and capturing fugitives. He added that efforts are ongoing to further increase the operational capacity of the Municipal Guard in the coming months. He noted that their goal is to make Balneário Camboriú a safe city at all times for both locals and visitors. Authorities plan to establish a sharper and more comprehensive security network by also leveraging the power of technology.

In the background of this comprehensive security strategy, a record-level budget allocation for the field stands out. This year, a budget of 48.5 million Brazilian Reals, the largest in the history of the Secretariat of Security and Public Order in Balneário Camboriú, was allocated. Municipal officials stated that these funds are used to strengthen the infrastructure of the security forces, purchase new technologies, and improve the working conditions of the guards. Increasing personnel numbers, modernizing equipment, and expanding digital surveillance systems are among the distinct parts of this investment. All these financial and structural supports allow the field units to act more equipped and swiftly.
