DMM refutes claims of 'terror attack in Ankara' ahead of NATO Summit

The Disinformation Combating Center (DMM), affiliated with the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, strongly rejected claims circulating on social media and some media outlets in recent days that 'a terror attack will be carried out in Ankara.' In an official statement, it was emphasized that such posts, coinciding with the NATO Summit process and aiming to cause panic among the public, are entirely based on unfounded information. It was noted that the aim of the claims is to disrupt public order and spread fear of terror, and such content is evaluated as part of psychological warfare techniques.

DMM officials stated that operative and intelligence efforts intensify before international organizations like the NATO Summit, but these efforts are not directly related to the security measures presented to the public. They announced that there is no threat or action of a terror attack in Ankara, security forces have taken all necessary measures, and the city is ready to host the summit with complete security. Attention was also drawn to the possibility that such unfounded claims could be part of discreditation campaigns.

It was reported that examinations regarding the source and spread speed of the disinformation content continue, and citizens were warned to rely on announcements made through official channels. The public was urged to be cautious against perception operations by terrorist organizations and their political extensions. The statement emphasized the determination and success of Türkiye's security forces in the fight against terrorism, stating that perception management should not be allowed.

Such initiatives, characterized as psychological warfare, were stated to aim to undermine public morale and shake trust in security forces. The DMM shared with the public that they identified these claims as clear disinformation and that legal processes have been initiated regarding the issue. The importance of social media users checking sources before sharing content whose accuracy they are not sure of was emphasized.

It was expressed that such news, aiming to poison the general security atmosphere, is also harmful for the successful conclusion of the NATO Summit and the strengthening of the international image. Information was given that peace and security are ensured in every part of Türkiye, especially in Ankara, and citizens continue their lives uninterrupted. As a result of the statement, a message was given that combating disinformation is one of the state's primary duties and sensitivity in this matter will continue.
