Massive Security Operation in Elazığ in June: Thousands of Suspects Caught

The Elazığ Governor's Office announced the monthly public order report covering the dates of 1-30 Haziran 2026. The intensive inspections and operations carried out jointly by the police and gendarmerie units across the city largely yielded results. During this one-month period, police and gendarmerie teams immediately intervened in a total of bin 129 public order incidents, quickly identifying the perpetrator or perpetrators. In the framework of these incidents, bin 89 suspects who were taken into custody were referred to judicial authorities after their statements were taken. Out of the suspects whose procedures at the guardhouses were completed, 194 were arrested by the on-duty court they were brought before and sent to prison.

In order to maintain the atmosphere of peace and security in the city in all areas, widespread traffic and identity checks were also continuously implemented. Security forces set up constant checkpoints at city entrances and exits as well as on main arteries to screen suspicious individuals and vehicles. In this context, within just one month, the identity information of exactly 273 bin 840 individuals was queried, and their various judicial and administrative records were checked. During the same period, 176 bin 977 vehicles were stopped and subjected to both paperwork and physical inspections. Administrative fines were imposed on 15 bin 704 vehicles found to have violated traffic rules, while 891 vehicles deemed unfit to be on the road due to technical deficiencies or legal non-compliances were banned from traffic.

Significant figures were also revealed in the field of traffic safety, and important data regarding civilian life in Haziran was shared. A total of 188 traffic accidents occurring in various districts and neighborhoods of Elazığ laid bare the traffic density and risk factors in the region. In these accidents, thanks to the initial responses given at the scene and afterwards, 322 citizens were injured to varying degrees. Following these high numbers, authorities issued severe warnings to drivers to obey speed limits. Furthermore, emphasizing the life-saving importance of using seatbelts, authorities stressed that traffic rules must be strictly observed.

Intense effort was also devoted to eliminating criminal elements and bringing weapons under control as part of the public order operations. During the searches conducted by security forces, a large number of illegal weapons, ammunition, and cutting tools were seized, ensuring the safety of the streets. As a result of these operations, 28 pistols, 24 shotguns, 8 magazines, and a large quantity of cartridges and shells were confiscated. Significant success was achieved against drug trafficking and use, cleaning up the stock of toxic substances in the city. Among the seized items were 185,2 grams of cannabis, 172,19 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 2,5 kilograms of bonzai, synthetic drugs, cocaine, and heroin, as well as their associated paraphernalia and precision scales.

A successful process was also carried out to prevent illicit proceeds and reunite lost/stolen items with their owners. During searches conducted by security units, a stolen motorcycle, six mobile phones, a large number of SIM cards, and 519 bin 245 TL in cash were secured. In addition, a massive amount of smuggled materials was seized as part of the fight against smuggling; specifically, 308 bin 600 cigarette tubes, 105 kilograms of tobacco, and thousands of packs of smuggled cigarettes were destroyed before being introduced to the market. The Elazığ Governor's Office announced that the police and gendarmerie teams will continue their operations regarding public order, drugs, and smuggling without interruption in order not to disrupt the peace of the public. It was stated that the same decisive fight against all kinds of crime and criminals will continue in the upcoming period, giving the message that public order will be protected without interruption.
