The Gana government has deployed 506 officers and specialists under the 'Feed Ghana' program to strengthen agricultural extension services across the country and provide technical support to farmers and agricultural enterprises. These personnel, who are graduates of agricultural colleges and universities, are being deployed to the field to increase national food production and consolidate the country's food security. Having successfully completed a comprehensive two-week orientation and training program, the officers will form the critical link between national agricultural policies and local implementation. This step stands out as a significant part of the government's goals to modernize the agricultural sector and reach sector workers directly. Authorities believe this new era will provide great momentum to Gana agriculture.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Eric Opoku announced that the personnel have officially started their duties, speaking at a graduation ceremony held at the National Police Training School (NPTS). He stated that the two-week training, provided in collaboration with the Gana Police Service, was designed to instill discipline, teamwork, and a strong spirit of public service in professionals who had already received agricultural training. In his speech, Minister Opoku emphasized that they expect the officers to act as ambassadors of production, discipline, and national renewal across the country. The graduation ceremony was held in an atmosphere that underscored that the personnel are ready for field challenges both physically and mentally. This event showcased a unique model that combines the disciplined working culture of the agricultural and security sectors.

The areas of responsibility for the deployed specialists will be quite broad, and they will take an active role in the field. Delivering agricultural extension services to farmers, coordinating various program activities, and transferring data collected from the field to central systems are among the primary responsibilities. Additionally, the personnel will work directly on identifying challenges faced in production processes and providing technical support to agricultural enterprises and institutions such as schools. Minister Opoku specifically emphasized that the new teams must work in full harmony and collaboration with existing agricultural extension officers, rather than competing with them. The government's main goal is to establish a single strong and integrated agricultural support network instead of creating disconnected and parallel structures. Through this, both knowledge sharing will increase and significant efficiency will be achieved in the use of resources.

National Coordinator of the Feed Ghana Program, Bright Demordzi, mentioned the details of the intensive two-week training process, stating how well-prepared the personnel are for their field duties. In this training, not only was agricultural expertise reinforced, but vital topics such as leadership, ethics, communication skills, and conflict resolution were also covered. Furthermore, physical fitness and endurance became an integral part of the training to ensure they can successfully carry out challenging tasks under field conditions. Demordzi expressed his belief that these officers will complement the shortcomings of existing extension personnel and open the door to much greater successes in Gana agriculture. Frederick Kofi Blagodzi, Director General in charge of Human Resources at the Gana Police Service, also reminded in his speech of the importance of personnel acting within a framework of professionalism and integrity. This approach will increase the personnel's reliability in the public eye, ensuring the program is embraced by wider audiences.

This new initiative of the government is not limited to public institutions and has begun to attract great interest from the private sector. Minister Opoku evaluated the fact that even private agricultural enterprises are sending requests to the ministry to benefit from the services of these new officers as an indicator proving the project's magnitude and potential in the sector. In line with this high demand and the sector's expected needs, it was reported that the government has prepared comprehensive plans to hire and train more graduates in the upcoming period. Thanks to this expanding program, it is aimed to reach thousands of farmers across the country and popularize modern agricultural techniques. With these steps, the Gana government is resolutely continuing its vision of consolidating national food security and triggering economic development through agriculture. Such visionary projects, which are of close interest to the continent in terms of regional development and food accessibility, will be further strengthened in the future.
