India Women's Commission Asked Police for a Report in the Case of the Indian Student Killed in Uzbekistan

Following the murder of Savarya, an Indian student from Kerala studying in Uzbekistan, the National Commission for Women (NCW) intervened and officially took over the investigation. Stating that the incident has very serious dimensions, including that the young woman was subjected to forced religious conversion, the commission instructed the Kerala State Police Chief (DGP) to submit a one-week report. This report is expected to clearly set out the details of all measures taken so far regarding the incident and the current progress of the investigation. Authorities aim to ensure that all processes regarding the death of the Indian student are conducted transparently and that those responsible are brought to justice as soon as possible.

The commission also emphasized that investigation processes should be accelerated and coordination should be established with the Ministry of External Affairs to properly follow up on the incident. In this context, an official directive was given to the Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan to take all necessary steps and closely follow the necessary legal procedures. It is planned to conduct active diplomacy at the international level to protect the rights of the young woman and to address the family's grievances. It is stated that the Indian government handles this incident with sensitivity in the context of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In line with the family's demands, it is aimed to achieve concrete results as soon as possible through the coordinated work of all institutions.

Meanwhile, harsh claims regarding the main motive behind the young woman's death have also begun to emerge. The right-wing Hindu organization Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) brought the issue directly to the agenda, claiming that 'Love Jihad' was behind the incident. VHP Spokesperson Vinod Bansal claimed that the suspect Sadırul Anam constantly forced Savarya to convert and that the young woman's rejection of this demand resulted in murder. The organization announced that it has conveyed its demands for urgent measures to be taken to the Kerala Police, Ministry of External Affairs, Office of the President of Uzbekistan, Indian Embassy, and Governor's Office. These claims have further complicated the ongoing international investigation.

The cause of Savarya's death was confirmed in the second autopsy performed on her body brought to India. According to the detailed autopsy report conducted at Alappuzha Medical College, severe blows to the young woman's head caused her death. Additionally, the report confirmed the family's previous claims by confirming that there were bruises and signs of beating on various parts of the young woman's body. Family members stated that Savarya was brutally beaten by the suspect, and that there were crush injuries and severe wounds on her body from her feet to her head. The true dimension of the murder became clear not as the body was initially found at the crime scene, but as a result of this comprehensive forensic examination conducted in India.

The suspect Sadırul Anam, who was determined to be the perpetrator of the incident and is currently in custody, is from the Pulamantol region of Kerala's Malappuram district. The family stated that the suspect constantly encouraged the young woman to convert, but Savarya always rejected this persistent demand. It is believed that the disagreement resulting from this rejection turned into a violent physical attack and resulted in murder. Indian officials announced that they will closely monitor the judicial process in Uzbekistan and that if any disruption or deficiency is detected in the process, steps will be taken to try the suspect in India in accordance with the BNSS 208 law. This legal sanction stands out as a security mechanism to ensure that Indian citizens who are exposed to serious crimes abroad can be held to account in their own country.
