Half-Ton Gold Fraud Shaking the İsmailağa Community

It has been claimed that Mehmet Y., the owner of Altıneller Kuyumculuk located in İstanbul Fatih, disappeared with approximately 500 kilograms of gold collected from the market. Following the business being closed for days and its doors locked, numerous victims emerged. Citizens who stated that they had entrusted their years of savings to this jeweler expressed that they are in shock and have been victimized. The repercussions of the incident went beyond a mere local fraud news, creating a broad public debate due to its connections with religious communities and foundations. The massive scale of the incident has caused authorities and victims to closely monitor the situation.

It was claimed that the missing jeweler was also in the position of custodian for İDDEF (İnsana Değer Veren Dernekler Federasyonu) and Erenler Vakfı, which are organizations close to the İsmailağa Cemaati. This brought to light that the incident affected not only the savings of ordinary citizens but also large-scale funds donated to the community and foundations. The fate of the donations and entrusted gold collected by the said foundations over the years currently remains uncertain. The statements of the victims and the allegations raised show how deep the financial relationship between the jeweler and these institutions is. Authorities are expected to launch a detailed investigation into the accounts of these organizations and their correspondence with the jeweler.

Following the incident, messages were sent to the victims' mobile phones, reportedly by the business owner Mehmet Y. The statements in the message indicated that no one's money was spent and promised that payments would be made shortly. Although this message created a glimmer of hope for the victims, it also caused great disappointment and anger. The disappearance of the relevant person and the subsequent messages further increased the suspicions of fraud. The victims are preparing to seek their rights through legal means and file a criminal complaint to the prosecutor's office with the evidence at hand.

The most resonant statements regarding the issue came from Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known by the nickname Cübbeli Ahmet, who is known to have separated from the İsmailağa Cemaati. Through a video he shared on his social media account, Ünlü reacted harshly towards the community and the relevant institutions. In the video, he demanded accountability by questioning how many kilos of gold belonging to İDDEF and the Erenler Vakfı, affiliated with Mahmut Eren, disappeared and who these golds actually belonged to. Cübbeli Ahmet claimed that despite these institutions being warned for a long time, caution was not exercised and the people's money was squandered. This outburst showed that the incident also brought the internal reckonings within religious communities to light.

Cübbeli Ahmet's criticisms were not limited to the missing gold but were also directed at the operation of the said institutions. In his statement, he claimed the existence of a system where people earn 80-100 grams of gold per year in exchange for one kilo of gold, emphasizing that this constitutes interest and usury, which are forbidden in Islam. Stating that the Ummah's collected money should not be allowed to melt away in such places, he called on the public not to help institutions like İDDEF and Erenler Vakfı. These harsh criticisms reveal that the incident has initiated a profound questioning process on the transparency of religious and charitable organizations, rather than just being a theft case.
