The traffic accident that occurred on the D-100 highway in İstanbul's Beylikdüzü district has once again put local residents on high alert. Following a rear-end collision involving a light commercial vehicle that had broken down on the road for an unknown reason, numerous teams were dispatched to the scene. Traffic flow in the area came to a standstill due to the impact of the collision, and the response efforts of the standby teams are ongoing. In an inspection conducted by authorities, it was determined that the incident resulted in a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles. This incident has once again highlighted how frequently such accidents occur at İstanbul's heavy traffic junctions.

The D-100 highway, where the incident took place, is known as one of the main arteries experiencing the heaviest intercity and intracity traffic. On this route, where morning and evening commute traffic is at its peak, the failure to promptly resolve vehicle breakdowns poses significant dangers. The inability of a broken-down commercial vehicle to wait in the emergency lane or the failure to place warning signs early enough shortens the stopping distance of oncoming vehicles, inviting accidents. İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi and General Directorate of Highways teams frequently conduct inspections to prevent such risky situations. However, human factors such as drivers' lack of attention and failure to maintain following distance remain among the primary causes of accidents.

Following the accident, 112 Emergency Service teams, who quickly arrived at the scene, provided first aid to the injured person on-site. During initial checks conducted by health teams, it was reported that the condition of the single person injured in the crash was good and not life-threatening. After receiving initial treatment, the injured individual was transferred to the nearest hospital for further examinations and treatment. Meanwhile, the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident gave their statements at the police station regarding the incident. Traffic police officers were tasked with completing accident reconstruction and debris investigations to prepare a report.

This triple chain-reaction crash caused long queues and heavy congestion on the D-100 highway. Long vehicle queues, which spilled over to side roads due to the closed lanes, caused citizens to arrive late for work and home. The disruptions on this main route, which particularly connects the European side to the Anatolian side, paralyzed the city's internal traffic. Authorities announced that traffic began to slowly return to normal after the vehicles involved in the accident were removed from the road with tow truck assistance. Warnings were issued via navigation applications for drivers to be more careful and use alternative routes.

Experts emphasize that drivers must be much more careful to prevent such chain-reaction accidents. Adhering to speed limits, maintaining long following distances, and avoiding distracting behaviors are the most fundamental steps to take to curb traffic hazards. If a broken-down vehicle remains on the road, placing reflectors and warning triangles at a considerable distance back will allow oncoming vehicles to slow down and notice the danger. It should not be forgotten that in metropolises like İstanbul, where millions of people live and traffic is heavy, a small negligence can lead to major disasters. This incident serves as a recurring warning for all drivers and highlights the need to raise public awareness regarding traffic safety.
