Thousands of People Celebrate the 'Five Holinesses' Festival at the Tian Fu Gong Temple in Jakarta

The Tian Fu Gong temple on Riverwalk Island in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of North Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, hosted an extremely crowded religious ceremony. Tian Fu Gong President Fransisca Halim stated that this year's celebrations were much more crowded and vibrant compared to past years, describing this situation as an indicator of the return to normal after the pandemic. The temple management warned citizens that traffic could intensify in the area today, the peak of the Festival, especially between 09.00 and 12.00. Predicting that public transportation might be insufficient, they stated that those wishing to come by private vehicles should be prepared for traffic congestion. The warnings were made to ensure the celebrations flow smoothly and that participants do not experience any negativity. It was observed that logistical difficulties seen in similar religious events were tried to be overcome this time with good planning.

In traditional Chinese culture, 'lontong' is a food obtained by processing rice specially and cooking it wrapped in banana leaves, becoming an indispensable part of this festival. The lontongs distributed free of charge at this event are considered a symbol of 'Wu Fu', the Five Holinesses (Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, Love, and Immortality), and are the most basic example of the culture of sharing. Volunteers worked with great dedication to prepare and distribute thousands of portions of lontong, ensuring that this bountiful day was not only a material but also a spiritual sharing. By receiving this treat, participants not only filled their stomachs but also refreshed a cultural heritage. The place of food in religious rituals and its unifying effect on society was revealed once again at this event.
