Two small-scale earthquakes that occurred in the offshore of Yalova and Armutlu in the Sea of Marmara this morning have once again revealed that seismic activity continues in the region. The first tremor was felt in the Armutlu offshore in the early hours of the morning, exactly at 07:21, and was 1.8 magnitude according to Kandilli Observatory data. While the depth of this earthquake was measured as 11.3 kilometers, it was reported that it did not cause major panic or damage in settlements due to its intensity. Immediately after this first tremor, a second development took place indicating that the fault activity in the region continued.

About an hour and a half after the first earthquake, at 08:57, a new earthquake occurred in the Yalova offshore, and this tremor was recorded with a slightly stronger intensity than the previous one, at 2.5 magnitude. While the depth of the second earthquake was measured as 13.2 kilometers, its epicenter was again determined as this sensitive part of the Sea of Marmara. These consecutive natural events reminded how seismically active a zone the Sea of Marmara is and that it is in constant movement.

Upon the continuation of the tremors in the region, eyes turned to the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, Turkey's most important seismic observation center. The Institute shared official data regarding the earthquakes with the public and made transparent information about the technical details of the event. In the statements, it was emphasized that both earthquakes developed depending on the mobility of the earth's crust and, luckily, did not cause any loss of life or property.

These tremors experienced in the morning hours also created an awareness among the public regarding earthquake preparedness and consciousness in the Marmara region. The scientific facts that one must always be on alert against possible larger earthquakes, that such small tremors can help faults release energy but that the risk of a major earthquake is not completely over have been brought to the agenda once again. Citizens in and around Yalova continue to follow the situation through social media and news channels following these recent developments.

According to current official data, it was learned that the earthquakes of 1.8 and 2.5 magnitudes that occurred in the morning hours did not cause any negativity based on the information and reports received. While the Governorship and relevant local authorities continue their preparations against a possible situation, it was stated that the tremors were of a temporary nature and necessary precautions were taken. The table containing technical details clearly reveals that the exact epicenter of the earthquakes was the Armutlu offshore of Yalova and took place within the Sea of Marmara.
