Drug operation in Şanlıurfa's Suruç district: Cannabis, heroin, and weapons seized

The Şanlıurfa Provincial Gendarmerie Command conducted a large-scale operation as part of the fight against narcotic crimes. The operation, organized against a suspect identified as trafficking drugs and stimulants in the Suruç district, was successfully concluded. Teams had intensified intelligence efforts to protect the local population from the menace of drugs. It was learned that long-term physical surveillance and technical monitoring were conducted prior to the operation. In this context, a simultaneous raid was planned on the address used by the suspect as storage or a residence.

The Suruç District Gendarmerie Command teams meticulously executed the raid. During the searches, a significant amount of drugs and illegal weapons were seized. Among the confiscated materials, 210 grams of cannabis and 15 grams of heroin stood out. Additionally, 550 grams of cannabis seeds, which could be used in drug production or trade, were among the materials seized during the operation. 30 lockable bags and a precision scale, which would facilitate drug use and sale, were also handed over to the gendarmerie teams.

The weapons and ammunition seized alongside the drugs revealed the seriousness of the operation. During searches conducted in vehicles and at the address, 1 shotgun was seized, while 1 pistol magazine was recorded as evidence. In addition, 40 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition were also taken into custody along with the weapons found in the operation. Authorities point out that individuals engaged in illegal substance trade generally carry weapons to protect themselves from both rivals and security forces. This situation also provides important clues about the working methods of criminal organizations and gangs in the region.

One suspect caught in the operation was taken into custody and referred to the courthouse after the necessary security procedures. Legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect on charges such as trafficking drugs and stimulants, as well as carrying and possessing weapons. Gendarmerie teams are continuing to interrogate the suspect, whose statement was taken, to uncover their connections. Authorities stated in an official announcement that the investigation is being expanded and is ongoing. It is being investigated whether the suspect had previous records for similar crimes.

Security forces are resolutely continuing their efforts to prevent drug trafficking across the country, particularly in border provinces.
