Suez Canal Revenues Increase by 23% With the Decrease in Regional Tensions

Revenues from the Suez Canal increased by 23 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 4,67 milyar dolar (230,22 milyar Mısır Lirası) in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. This increase indicates that regional tensions have begun to decrease. Suez Canal Authority Chairman Ossama Rabie announced this data in an interview broadcast on Sada Al-Balad TV channel on Sunday, 28 Haziran. Rabie also briefed President Abdülfettah es-Sisi in a separate meeting the same day. In the meeting, in addition to the increase in canal revenues, Egypt's new investments in the maritime and fisheries sectors were also discussed.

In the meeting held with President es-Sisi, the latest developments regarding the production of twelve new and advanced "REZK" class deep-sea fishing vessels were discussed. These vessels, designed for offshore fishing, are planned to be built in Egypt. Additionally, the construction of new fiberglass boats to support Nile and sea tourism, and the completion of hull manufacturing for three cruise ships were evaluated. These investments stand out as part of Egypt's efforts to diversify and strengthen its maritime sector.

The increase in Suez Canal revenues is interpreted as an important indicator that regional tensions have eased. In particular, the recent decrease in hostilities between İran and ABD was effective in this positive picture. In 2024, due to tensions in the Kızıldeniz and Bab el-Mendeb regions, canal revenues had declined to 3,9 milyar dolar (192,28 milyar Mısır Lirası). During that period, Husilerin attacks on İsrail-linked vessels had severely disrupted maritime transport in the region.

Following the decline in 2024, this recovery recorded in the 2025/2026 fiscal year restores confidence in the stability of the Suez Canal, which is of critical importance for global trade and energy transit. As the shortest sea route between Asya and Avrupa, the canal hosts about 12 percent of world trade. The increase in revenues also means a vital foreign currency source for the Egyptian economy.

In the upcoming period, with regional tensions decreasing further and global trade volume increasing, Suez Canal revenues are expected to continue their rise. The Egyptian government continues to invest to increase the canal's capacity and improve its logistics services. Through this, both the strategic importance of the canal will be reinforced and its contribution to the national economy will increase.
